#Microblog Mondays: Something to Look Forward To

Summer is a short four days away.

I have chosen not to perseverate on the fact that in 5 days, my home study will expire and my agency has yet to set us up with an appointment with the social worker, despite the fact that we paid our update fee in early April, our forms to complete weren't sent to us until early May, and I sent all the forms that we could complete by May 18 (although they apparently got lost in the mail for almost 2 weeks). I am choosing not to let that eat me up inside because we will most definitely have a lapse even though I was told, "your date is in late June, you're fiiiiine."

I mean, we haven't had an opportunity since March, so what are the chances we'll have one in the (hopefully super brief) time that our home study is expired?

I will try to forget all that, try to let go of any hopes or anticipations that MAYBE something might happen in the summer, because I keep doing this to myself and it doesn't ever seem to work out the way I thought it might.

So, I look forward to this:

Pardon my drumsticks, but you get the idea.

Blissful summertime, filled with dirt-streaked legs and arms from hours of gardening, reading a zillion books on my chaise lounge out back, and at least July without doing much of anything school-related, if I can help it. Time to relax, and build my stores up for another September where I'm pretty sure I will be there, and so I'd better plan as if I am. Reading, gardening, writing, lounging, vacationing...now THAT is something tangible to look forward to.

    1. Thank you! I love my backyard. This doesn't even do it justice...it is the best to spend the first true day of summer out on my chaise lounge with a good book in the middle of the day. Thank you so much for all the hopes!

  2. Sitting outside on the chaise lounge reading looks marvelously relaxing. Sorry to hear about the home study - that's very frustrating. I hope that this summer is one of peace and restoration and that everything starts to fall into place soon.

    1. Thank you so much -- it IS marvelously relaxing! The home study piece is a bit of a headache, but it will be resolved. Thank you for your summer wishes!

  3. Oh man how frustrating that your agency isn't moving faster to get the home study done. I would be just as annoyed as you- especially if you started the process early.

On a completely different note, I'm glad that someone else has pasty white legs like me! :-)

    1. I was super annoyed but am less so now...update to come shortly. Ha! Yes...pasty legs unite! They don't tan, AT ALL. That picture could very well have been late August and I'd spent hours outside in the sun...they are pretty much invincible to any form of melatonin. :)

  4. Ugh about your adoption agency. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

I think your approach of being calm is a great one. Control what you can and breathe through what you can't. May there be good books and warm summer days.

    1. It's frustrating to be so out of control on this one, to get all our pieces done and have everything linger out in the ether. I need to let go more often, it would really save me a lot of anxiety. I hate things hanging out there. Thank you for your summer wishes! It will surely be relaxing, and I have quite the stack of books lined up. Can't. Wait.

  5. I love your caption on the picture...you are so funny! 😀
This looks like an amazing way to spend your summer and I will admit I am quite jealous!! Nothing better than being able to be in your own cozy backyard! Enjoy!!

    1. Thank you! I am so looking forward to it. Only a few more days... End-of-the-year teacher tired is a special kind of tired, and that chaise lounge is the cure for sure. :)

  6. While I really hope that it's a chaotic, sleepless, baby-filled summer, if that's not in the cards, then may it be relaxing. Summer reading -- especially by the pool or in the backyard -- is the best.

    1. Oh, me too. I hope I go from teacher tired to new mama tired. I would accept that gladly...but at least I have summer reading in my future to count on!

  7. So jelly you get the summer off!! I hope you enjoy!

I remember well the times I thought would be "perfect" times to get "the call" for a placement. It never happened. When I got the call it was during a time I wasn't even thinking about it much. But, it was hard thinking of those perfect times and trying to not will the call into existence. Best of luck!

    1. It's lovely to have the summer off, not so lovely to not get paid for two months...I tell my friends I am rich in time and poor in cash. :) It is always hard to think that "maybe this will be the time we get our call." So hard to break that habit. I can only hope for another call to come our way and to be The Call, but for now I look forward to my backyard oasis and a July free of school things (August is basically Get-Ready time). Thank you for your good wishes!

Yay to you for washing that annoyance away and bulding a plan for rest and more. Happy Summer. :-)

  10. Oh, how I miss having a backyard. I know, I know, hon, our home study expired too and we had to pay to update the same damn thing. Ridiculous, if you ask me. Enjoy your summer, make some great memories!

    1. Having a backyard is definitely an asset. Thank you for your update commiseration...it helps to know that it's a fairly common occurrence. Oh to live in Ohio, where they only require updating every TWO years, which seems far more reasonable to me. Thank you for your summer wishes!

Enjoy the reading, and don't get sunburnt!

    1. Thank you! Yup, 50+ on my pasty body at all times if I'm to be outside. I can burn even with that... So sad!

  12. I was certain I'd replied to this - perhaps because I remember saying, "Nice legs! Enjoy your reading and don't get sunburnt!"

I'm going to blame issues with my mobile device. I don't think I'm losing it just yet!

    1. You did! Exactly that! I don't know what's happening, I have to go into "Awaiting Moderation" to check for your comments. I get emails for everyone else, but for some reason you go straight into "awaiting." :( Thank you for the lovely compliment on my albino drumsticks, and you are definitely not losing it. :)
