#Microblog Mondays: Things Left Undone

We need to buy our stroller.

We somewhat shamefully still have enough gift cards from our baby shower to cover the cost of the stroller we wanted, but we are really running out of space to put things for a baby that doesn't yet exist, and so we've been putting it off. We already have a back storage room that has our carseat, two bases, a red flyer wagon, bottle sterilizer, pack 'n play...and that doesn't count the drawer in the kitchen full of bottles, bowls, utensils, trees and flowers for the Lawn drying thingie...or the things upstairs in the nursery like the mini Nuna play yard thing for infants or the baby carrier or the vibrating bouncy seat thing or the play mat that lies under the crib.

For some reason, adding the stroller, for as much as it folds compactly, seemed like a proverbial straw.

And yet, I am nervous. What if our carseats, which are now a year and a half old, don't fit newer strollers? Do they remain compatible for longer periods of time than I fear? Has our stroller already become obsolete? I know I could call the store, but I just don't want to at the moment.

We don't drive past the big baby store often, but when we do I'm wracked with guilt. I should buy the damn stroller. What's one more thing?

Maybe that's what February will be. The Month We Buy the Stroller. It would be nice if it was also The Month We Became Parents, too, but at least the stroller is within my control.

  1. At least.

It is a comfort to wrap head and hands around that which one can control.

    1. Yes. To the baby store this weekend... Thank you!

  2. Yep, what Middle Girl said. You can guarantee that at least one positive thing (stroller buying) can happen in February, and given that like attracts like, who knows what other positive events will occur... *fingers crossed knocking on wood*

    1. Thank you...I don't necessarily believe in the magical power of buying the stroller (I mean, a crib is needed right away and I've had that for over a year and a half), but maybe it's like building up goodwill for what will hopefully come. Stroller buying this weekend is in the plans!

  3. I second Traci's statement. Stroller shopping is the fun (well, relatively fun) stuff. And it is within your control. You get to decide whether it happens now or later.

    1. I hope the stroller we liked is still available! It was one that folded easily with one hand, which seems like a useful feature. And it was good for lots of terrain without being bulky and worked with the infant carrier up through toddler. I'm going to try to get it this weekend, and hope that compatibility is not an issue.

  4. Well you know me...I did not want ANY baby stuff until the last possible moment. But that sort of procrastination is not an option for you and Bryce, even if the bloody universe keeps procrastinating. So I'll echo what the ladies above said....go buy the stroller and put the most positive spin on it that you can. At least you won't have to feel guilty about not buying it. Oh and if you have to you can survive without a compatible stroller and carseat. I didn't want a travel system so we always had to take the baby out of her bucket seat to put her in the stroller. It was not a great hardship.

    1. When we had that last minute profile opportunity, I had a moment of panic -- "We don't have the stroller!" but then I realized that you can just use the baby carrier and it's freaking cold out again, so the stroller could wait. But yeah, I think this is the Weekend of the Stroller. We had one we'd researched and had really great reviews (strangers and actual live people we know), so I hope it will attach our infant seat no problem. I hope! If not we will figure it out. THanks!

  5. Ugh. I can sympathize with the dread. On one hand, you want to be compatible with your equipment. On the other . . . .

If possible, can you guys enlist help? Have someone take your car seat and narrow your options down to 3? This way it can limit you're exposure. And then reward with a good bottle of wine.

    Hugs lady. Lots of hugs.

    1. Exactly. I will have to call, we have the Chicco KeyFit 30 Magic...that's still a thing, right? I feel like it's like smartphone chargers, they change them just enough to warrant new ones every year or so. Argh. AND YES, yes to the wine reward. What a great idea!

  6. If you don't feel ready, it seems like the stroller could wait, right? Probably one of these days, you'll feel like doing something, and it'll feel good to cross it off a list. Even if you end up with a baby before you get a stroller, I'm pretty sure a baby can survive without one for at least a few days! ;)

  7. The push-pull that comes from the uncertainty is so hard!

Goodbye, January. Hello, February. Be good to my friend Jess, please.

    1. So hard, right? Thank you for my month greetings. I sure hope February brings good things, whatever they look like...

  8. I hope buying the stroller puts the proverbial last piece in the puzzle, sending it out into the universe that you have finished every possible task, bought every last possible thing, and now it's time for Mystery Baby to find their way to you.

  9. Buy the stroller. You have a car seat, bases, a wagon... eh, what's one more thing? Maybe it'll kick in some good baby juju for you. <3

  10. " ... at least the stroller is within my control." Wise words.

I can understand the reluctance though.
