Being An Infertile Teacher is Harder. We discuss fertility and all sorts during it. I hold it together and not even think about it for the most part (it's just part of the job- you know). Until, one kid asks: "Miss do you have kids?"
Insert emotionless token answer: "No I don't".
"Oh you should you would make a good mum".
It's such a compliment from a teenager (they live in a world of negativity) but there is nothing more heartbreaking than that comment and all of the unspoken thoughts that follow.
So I agree: being a teacher is hard but being and infertile one is harder.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05996023812165773396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-29647358474613635702017-01-17T11:41:52.282-08:002017-01-17T11:41:52.282-08:00I can't even begin to fathom how you were able...I can't even begin to fathom how you were able to get through his ridiculous comments without losing it - I wanted to cry/scream just reading about it! Kudos to you for keeping your calm, and I'm happy it's gotten better over the past few years. internetg33khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12672869878789920528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-13988863788943715502017-01-10T06:42:49.736-08:002017-01-10T06:42:49.736-08:00oh gosh that must have been awful. Growing up in catholic Ireland, from the little sex ed we got we were always given the impression that everyone is super fertile and we could get pregnant super easily so we had to watch out basically! So when I did start having sex with my boyfriend he used condoms and I went on the pill as a double precaution I was so terrified of getting pregnant before being married! Ironic now of course.. dubliner in Deutschlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16531838540641364420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-75276763383428256472017-01-10T02:34:46.083-08:002017-01-10T02:34:46.083-08:00I'm coming to this from your link in your Mond...I'm coming to this from your link in your Monday post. Ugh, what a thing to happen. All I can say is that if this teacher knew about your infertility, then he is either a prize C U next Tuesday or just an unthinking idiot, which amounts to much the same thing in my book.Different Shoreshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04258965034047522109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-66871667370204700172014-02-10T18:21:46.010-08:002014-02-10T18:21:46.010-08:00Thanks, lady! Lucky me I get to teach it to my self-contained class in May... Although I run the discussion then and I certainly won't be saying how easy it is for people to have babies in this world. And despite the massive number of teachers I see in the fertility clinic groups and whatnot, there is always a teacher baby boom. Some days I just want to have a sign to wear that says, "No, I don't have kids. And NO, it is NOT by choice." Thanks for stopping by--I will be sure to check out your journey as well! I'm sorry you are experiencing all this loveliness, but glad that you are joining in on the bloggy world. It can be so, so helpful in so many ways. I am new to blogging and infertility. I am a teacher too and totally get what you mean when you said teaching is a mine field. When my students ask if/why I don't have kids I always say something like, "You are my kids!" But it definitely tugs at my heart. Normally, I am much more easily triggered by parents or staff room conversations than the kids. Your tale about the sex=baby conversation made me cringe! I wouldn't have been able to handle it...you are right to feel accomplished. I hope mommyhood happens for you soon and I will definitely be back to catch up on your story from the beginning. KinderCoaster Kelseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02475215174723439229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-21743748913730001782014-01-18T18:25:09.554-08:002014-01-18T18:25:09.554-08:00You have been nominated for a blogger award :) You have been nominated for a blogger award :) Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7998166587816121679.post-60240727978623459532014-01-17T09:42:55.030-08:002014-01-17T09:42:55.030-08:00Oh Jess! "Most" is such a small word and insignificant concession to make, he certainly could have made it. Way to hold it together!
